The residence is first mentioned in written records dating from the 15th century and has a long, rich history. The impressive frescoes on the facade at the main entrance date from the 17th century with late Gothic influences and predominantly geometric forms. Hospitality has always been writ large here. The bay window room on the first floor with its stucco ceiling, stone-framed rectangular windows, wooden floor boards and tiled stove originally served as a guest room. Before the residence passed to the Bernard family it was owned by the Niederstätter siblings, who, however, had no descendents. Carl Niederstätter, organist and bandmaster of the Kaltern citizens’ band therefore willed the residence to Anton Bernard – a good friend who had proven his friendship more than once.
Since 1900 the residence has thus been in the possession of the Bernard family. Over the decades the family has striven to preserve its unmistakeable architecture. The third generation of the family to own the residence had the main rooms of the building carefully restored in 1980, and in 2012 the few left over rooms were also tackled. This resulted in the creation of a stylish holiday apartment in which we now welcome our guests. Look forward to an extraordinary mix of tradition and modernity.
